The Paving Method

The Incheon International Airport Expressway has been paved with special paving methods in order to provide a safe and speedy flow of traffic. The paving method adopted in each section extends the expected life span of the road and prevents road-damages including plastic deformation. These methods will reduce traffic jams caused by repair works.

Yeongjong Island Section 11.5km

As the traffic volume increases, plastic deformation may occurs. The S. M. A (Stone Mastic Asphalt) paving method was adopted to prevent plastic deformation.

Yeongjong Grand Bridge Section 3.3 km

In the Incheon area, because there is a wide temperature difference all the year round and the bridge requires the waterproofing of the steel plate deck, anti-fluidity and anti-abrasion, the Guss Asphalt(upper part) and Modified Asphalt(lower part) paving method has been adopted.

Ground Earthwork section 18 km

The General Asphalt paving method has been adopted because the traffic volume is of little quantity

Banghwa Grand Bridge Section 3.7 km

Because the plastic deformation of the steel plate deck may occur due to the increase of the traffic and stagnation S.M.A paving method, which has the excellent effects including watertightness, anti-fluidity, and crack resistance, has been adopted.
